Catching Mink

I'm just wondering would a rat cage trap be good enough to catch a mink or what's the difference between the two traps bar one being a bit bigger

It'd depend on the type of rat cage. And, clearly, the size of the mink, in comparison.

What ye looking at?

There's a semicircular rat trap for sale on sites like screwfix would that be big enough?Have seen mink near my area and want to take precautions.

That's what we used to know as the " Monarch " trap, GR. I've seen them rammed full of *young* rats. Never actually known one to catch an adult. No way I can see a mink getting caught in one.

Might I ask why ye don't just buy a Mink trap, being as ye appear to be starting from scratch? Even better? Make a few?

Just buy a good quality mink cage trap off here. It will last a lifetime if minded, and a necessity, if your keeping poultry.

" what bait do you recommend? "

Most amateurs just use sardines. Personally, I used more specialised stuff. Winterised Fish Oil is a lot cheaper than a tin of Centra's finest. I also imported specific Gland Lures, from US. Guaranteed to break the ice at parties! LOL!

I use fish heads, or sardines in oil, during the winter. In warm weather like this, your better off using a few feathers, with a squirt of fish oil in the back of the trap.

I've heard smoked kippers are good during the summer too, but never tried them personally.
