" Eltex " Drinker Wanted. 1/2 Gallon.

For proper use. (Alright; And a large dose of nostalgia!) Gallon one would do, at a push.

Thanks.

Thanks, Joseph. I'm loving having it out there. Just seems Right, somehow :)

Actually ... Sod it! In view of the fact that this is a Mac Eoin site, and what they're all about? I don't think they'll mind me pointing people like us to an absolute Feast of Nostalgia!

Getting my Eltex, today, led me to going back for a bit of reminiscing. Had a browse of one of the early 50's catalogues. Those Incubators and Brooders! :D

Enjoy!

When we started off Dingle Poultry back in the 80's we were the distributors for Eltex in Ireland.
I visited their factory a couple of times and it was like stepping back in time.
That time they made chemical toilets and greenhouse heaters which we sold alot of and for a time they made an incubator range but it never took off. Good quality but high price.
The workshop in Bradford where we made all our Traps and some poultry supplies had some very old equipment but their machines were older than ours.
We still have in our workshop here in Dingle some Fly Presses from the workshop dating back to the 1920's and Edwards Guillotine and Folders from 1940's.
Our spot welder was bought in 1959 by Patchett Engineering who used it making our traps and equipment until 6 years ago when we moved everything over here and we still have it here today and the origional receipt.
Sadly alot of the equipment we don't use any more as nearly everything except some cages and nestbox parts we now buy in.

So if anyone is looking for any Fly Presses we will be selling 1 massive one and 2 smaller ones, 1 spot welder, afew folders and loads of other items next year when we clear out the workshop to make more storage space.

*Brilliant* post, Flock Master! :D Thanks!

I just love old stuff. Just the other day, a neighbour visited here and pointed at a galvanised bucket, sat next to a random, plastic one.

" What's the old bucket for? " He asked.

" The *Clang*! " I told him! :D

During a 'covid' shed clear out we came across my mother's old brooder. It held so many memories of collecting chickens from the bus and bringing them home on the back of a bike. They then spent the first fortnight in the corner of our kitchen. It was an old Rupert hover brooder with an ordinary light bulb in the top but my mother called it a Hoover!

You cant beat the old stuff. The Rupert brooder was a great bit of kit. We used them for rearing pheasants in the late 70's.
I worked at Hamer Incubators during my childhood and until i went to Agricultural College.
As well as keeping breeding stock & hatching we used to refurbish and service their machines some which were decades old.
Still loads of Hamer Incubators being used around the world mainly for pheasant and duck hatching, we sent parts to Nigeria afew years ago for a Hamer cabinet machine made in the late 1940's and still going strong.

My aunt hatched out hundreds of chicks in those old cabinet incubators in the early sixties. She had bought them all at auctions for 2.6 or 5 shillings!
