New EU Rules Pure Madness !

Received an e-mail from the Dept of Agriculture yesterday morning informing me that as a registered flock owner its now or soon will be compulsory to comply with a new EU ruling to have individual birds Microchipped and recorded on a Data base for tracing due to the high incidences of bird flu across Europe.
Apparently local Dept Vets will be responsible for all procedures at a cost of E2.50 per bird.
This is surely EU ruling gone mad and i for one am seriously thinking of surrendering my birds rather then complying with this EU bullshit.

And if you’re not registered, nobody knows you have any birds and have no means of finding out. If microchipping becomes law then it’ll just mean less registration

I think people have been traumatized by having their futures on hold or dashed totally with wages that don't match buying their first home, having a family is on hold or nonexistent coz too old, then a pandemic and now a war.
There's not much to laugh about.

Yes but it's precisely because of all these things that we NEED a good laugh. I was buying hen food yesterday and trying on new wellies at the same time when my bag of coins (egg money) spilt all over the shop floor. Everyone burst out laughing as my grand daughter chased them all over the place. At least we all left there with a smile 😊

I don't think laughter can be forced when people have only a future of working in an unsatisfactory job until the day they die just trying to pay rent and bills, that keep rising but wages don't match, or if they're lucky pay a mortgage.
They now are scared to death of dying in an global pandemic and now a war.
That's great you can build memories with your grand daughter.
Alot of people cannot afford to have kids and alot will never have kids or grandkids.

Oh dear looks like I stepped on someone's toes! Yes, I thank God for my children and grandchildren. However don't assume that life was easy for us either. You were lucky to have a job in the 80's unsatisfactory or not. As for a rented house or mortgage we couldn't afford either. We lived in a mobile home when our children were small so by today's standards couldn't afford them either! We didn't feel hard done by. Expectations were not as high and people were content with less.

Joseph Lawler ' people were content with less', 100% true.
I can clearly remember playing in the hay fields, getting my hair full of grass seeds. Making a toy gun from a piece of branch. Alwats ate what was in front of you, without any complaint. Bread and jam sandwiches a wonderfull.
How progress has sadly changed the world..
Greed, greed and more greed.

It's not about stepping on toes or feeling hard done by.
As I said, it was my view that people cannot joke about April fools when they are traumatized from pandemic, war and now a future famine.
I don't believe everyone in the current generation should be called greedy though.
You have a right to your views of the world but so do other people and not everyone's situation is the same.
I think we've all played with grass swords and ate what was put in front of us.
I don't believe there has been any progress when people are repeating mistakes if history having constant wars and wasting life.
I do believe alot of the current generation hoped for a future of real progress better than what we currently have and they have seen nothing. Not even a new invention or medical technique. I don't believe this generation should be shamed, belittled and disrespected just coz they hoped for positive progress. It's got nothing to do with feeling entitled.

There does seem to be an awful lot of greed about these days, and people focusing on the negatives in life,I stayed in a van at one point rent free lovely in the summer, and deadly in winter I'd do it again aswell like one big holiday.

So now we have the Laugh Police on patrol,my God how things have changed on here.
Very sad to hear people can,t laugh at an April fools joke anymore, sad state of affairs and as for saying people can,t afford to have children, what a load of tosh, when could anyone afford to have kids when you think about it.
I know when our first girl was born we had,nt got a shilling but you always manage somehow and make sacrifices,we then said sure we,ll have another because the first was a model baby, then we had twin girls.Panic,my God how are we going to manage but we did and live to tell the tale.
How blessed we are, eldest is 26 now,Speech therapist, twins are 23,one doing phychiatric nursing, the other doing Environmental Science so if we had of said back then "Oh we can,t afford kids" these fine girls would not exist.
And do you know what got us through it all really was knowing how to have a good laugh, thats free by the way.
If people went down the route of we can,t afford kids then the Human race is in deep trouble, some of the finest people in the world were born in poverty but because of their parents and their love made good for themselves.
And if people can,t laugh then the world is truely in trouble, roll on the first of April next year and the year after,P.G. we,ll all still be here and fuck the begrudgers as my dear old Father used to say.

Well said nama-man. I agree with you 100%. That was the first time in my life that I was made to feel almost guilty for being able to have fun with my grand daughter. When the grand children come you will be even more blessed. As for the children missing out to be honest I think it taught them values. I'm amused and quite chuffed to see they are now bringing up their own children in a similar way (without the mobile). Oh and there were even two new ones born in lockdown!

Congratulations on your new additions, never let anyone dictate how you live your life is my motto but I, m sure you don't need me to tell you that, if people want to wallow in their own misery instead of changing things leave them to it.
If you spend all your time in fear of what might happen you're at nothing.
I try to live by one rule "Do unto others as you would have done to you" and don't think you can go to far wrong with that.

They are Jesus's words so you definitely can't go wrong. And if you think of any other madness do share it! God bless.

Joseph lawler

Joseph, how did I make you feel guilty for having fun with your grand daughter?
It's clear to see above I said that's great you can make memories with your grand daughter....

Again, it was my view that people cannot joke about April fools when they are traumatized from pandemic, war and now a future famine.

Emotional abuse encompasses making a person's feelings seem unimportant, or constantly talking down to invalidating and refusing to listen to a person's thoughts, opinions and feelings, making a person feel invalidated, worthless, unheard or blaming a person for something that's out of their hands or deciding things for another person that they should decide themselves, like telling a woman to not give a toss about kids or telling a person they are too sensitive, paranoid, mocking the laugh police or making a person feel guilty if another doesn't do what they want or think the exact way you want them to think?!

I can see this conversation is about belittling those that can't afford to have kids and emotionally abusing people who do not find rape torture and murder funny.
Not everyone situation is the same but selfish people don't see that.

Sorry now but this was never intended as anything else but a bit of a joke and light relief for any member that wanted to contribute until it was sort of hijacked by yourself to air your voice in a somewhat depressing way.
Now I, m sorry you feel like you do but as Joseph mentioned its exactly at this point in time people do need some distractions to take their mind off the state of the world but that doesn't in turn mean those people don't care.
There are other sections on this forum for conversations on alternative topics and maybe that would have been a better choice for your opinions in the first place.

"Rape torture and murder" where did that come from?? are we still on about chickens.😕

paddycrawford
Thursday, April 7th, 2022

Exactly Paddy, that's my point, I put up my post to see how many people would fall for it as a bit of a joke, which I thought was the whole point of April Fools.
But there you go I, ve been accused of aiming emotional abuse at someone.
I suppose they are the changes and times we are living in now.
In times gone by we would have had a right bit of craic with this with up to over a hundred posts over a couple of evenings but hey Ho that's what you're up against.

nama-man
Thursday, April 7th, 2022

Phew! This is unbelievable. From now on I'm sticking with the chickens. It's a lot safer!

Joseph lawler
Thursday, April 7th, 2022

Yes years back you would have had quite a lot of posts I sometimes wonder where all these people have disappeared to and do they still keep chickens I remember being on here back about 2010 it was busy that time I no I more or less still keep the same chickens I had back then added a little new blood and culled some blood entirely, but still have carbon copies of some of my early stuff.
