Foot long centipede and two black deer?!
Do we have 12 inch centipedes in Ireland?!
As I was driving into town to get supplies, me and my mother saw what looked like a foot long centipede run across the road in front of the car...
It was brown with long thin body and many legs.
Was it something else?
Saw two black deer two nights ago dart across the road also.

Monday, February 14th, 2022 I've never seen one in Ireland but when I lived in Portugal there was one under my daughters bed. My husband had to use a shovel to break through the exoskeleton and kill it. They give a very painful bite that you will never forget so I've been told. They live under rocks in hot dry places, (like Portugal), so it would be strange to see one here but its possible.

Monday, February 14th, 2022 If you or your mother have seen a 12 inch centipede then it must be the Common Cryptops. But in Ireland I thought they are much smaller than the European ones.Irish centipedes are only few centimeters long and that goes for most if not all types of centipedes here.
Either I am wrong or this one hitched a ride from somewhere. For instance When I worked as a retail manager one time I opened a box of bananas and a big spider stripped like a zebra jumped out and disappeared in a split second behind the shelving. I looked for it and never found it. There were other times when I found dead tarantula spiders among the bananas. So it is not uncommon for foreign bugs and insects to hide in food and and other goods and get exported from their countries of origin.

Monday, February 14th, 2022 How quickly did it cross the road?
I recon even a foot long centipede would be pretty slow crossing a road. There's that, and the cold conditions we have at the moment, that makes me think that it was probably something else.

Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 The centipede creature was walking slowly and froze as the car came closer. To be honest, we don't know what we saw, it looked like a long thin centipede body with stick thin longer legs than a centipede has.
Creepy to know something like a tarantula might get exported with food.
