How do you count how many hours of light your chickens are getting per day?

So you can see what I want to know. What I mean is like when, before during or after the sunrise can you start counting day light hours and when, before during or after the sunset do you stop counting? This is of course if your chickens are not getting any artificial light. My chickens are getting artificial light in the morning so the main thing I want to know is when to stop counting hours of light in the evening.
Thanks in advance everyone.

The obvious answer is if your birds are let out at sunrise and go to roost at sunset then however many hours of daylight are in between is your answer x seven. As regards artificial light i never have used it and never will. Best left to Commercial set ups so they can exploit a birds laying system and burn them out,get people to rescue them and start the whole process over again. I believe Nature knows best and birds deserve a break from egg laying when their own bodies decide not a greedy human.
