How do you differentiate?

A friend is incubating two lines of the same pure breed chickens. He has the incubator divided in sections so will know which are which when they hatch. The problem arises when they go into the brooder. Even the smallest rings are still too big. Does anyone have any safe solution to this problem? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I dont no I never punch my own but I've seen and had birds over the years that were punched.

Small coloured zip ties. Replace weekly. I often hatch up to 5-6 lines of pekins at once. Each zip tie colour corresponds to a specific breeding pair for the whole season - the cock has the same colour zip tie as a leg ring, there is a zip tie on the front of the pen and the eggs are labelled "Colour - date". Saves any confusion

Permanent marker, dab beak or toes will stay on for about 10 days , then just redo
