Breeding dual purpose breeds
Hi.
I have a question regarding breeding different dual purpose breeds. If you cross two dual purpose breeds such as Orpington and australorp, do you get a nice large dual purpose bird as a result or a more general hybrid ?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2021 I personally think that the Buff Orpington is one of the best Dual purpose chickens you can get and its purebred! The like to sit pretty well, they are fairly heavy birds for meat, they lay fairly well and they can be very good looking.

Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 I am only starting to get into the Orpington breed , I have a few chocolate Orpington eggs in the incubator. But I breed a few large dual purpose breeds but I find the best ones are now rare breeds . I have the ixworth breed and they are a large heavy breed that does everything that I think you need and thsts why it became a rare breed , the best bit of it is its a quick grower and gets to a great weight for table .

Thursday, February 18th, 2021 The ixworth actually has some white Orpington in it. Just for what it is worth.
