Why did my hen die suddenly
Last night my chickens looked normal to me or at least I didn't notice anything. Today I didn't look in on them as soon as I normally did. But when I did look in one of my fully mature hens that started laying months ago was lying dead on the floor of the pen. She was lying on or back and stretched out. Right now because of the bird flu that is going around I have been keeping my chickens penned up a lot. And there are probably almost to many chickens for my coops but they have room to move about a bit. None of my other chickens look bad as far as I can see. Another thing is that there was an egg lying right underneath the dead hen. Could she have died after laying an egg? I don't know how the bird flu affects chickens maybe I have it? Can anyone advise me on this?

Any breathing problems in other hens?
Any redness around the vent?

I have not noticed any breathing problems in the other hens or redness around the vent. But I will look more closely tomorrow. I have been getting around 19-21 eggs daily from 24 main layers and there are a few younger ones that possibly could be laying a little bit. The other day I actually got 25 eggs from them.

Ok.
Could have been an unexcepted stroke.
This happened exactly to my hen and it was internal prolapse- but the vent was all messed up...
Don't think its bird flu with so many eggs and such sudden death.
I'm really sorry by the way.

I am not so worried about the hen. She wasn't anything special. But I was worried that the rest of my flock would die to.

She'll rasp, shake her head, pant, and you can hear her wheezing from up close.
The easiest way to tell is see if their mouths are constantly open, even just slightly.
