Two smaller coops instead of one big?
Would it work to have 2 hen houses within the same enclosure for one flock? So for instance: 12 chickens and a rooster within a 100m2 field with 2 hen houses designed for 6-8 chickens. Would they divide themselves among the houses or be overcrowded in one?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2021 Chickens are flock birds and will more than likely all perch together that are kept in one group.

Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 If you shut half the chickens in one house and half in the other for a couple weeks they will get used to roosting in a certain house and will likely continue to roost in the same house. But once they are all out together with the rooster he may make them all want to go to the same house.
