Fish I think but some use cat food. Will you kill the mink?

Anything fosh based works well . As this is a good part of there diet fish . I have used tins of sardines but if you have a fish monger near you ask them for a fish head or fish back bone . But change your bait regularly to keep the smell strong . If you want a proper trap they are about Ä30 and that saves alot of hard work . The one thing you have to make sure is on any trap is that its dark as mink are a inquisitive animal likes to go into dark places in search of food . Good luck and it will take practice.

I have heard of using a pipe but haven't had success with it myself. I think the main thing is to put it in the ground at an angle and make it small enough that the mink can't turn around in it

The way you use a pipe is get a piece of a sewage pipe the orange one about 3 or 4 ft long put one end into the ground by about a foot and the other end of ground by 6 inch so at a slight angle . Then drop a piece of bait in so it goes to the end . And then coat the inside with vasalene or grease so the mink can't get out .
I have tried this a few times but never caught anything, better to just buy a proper trap .

Don't use those pipes if your gonna call a ranger. Buy a proper cage trap. Plenty for sale on here, and they don't cost the bank
