First mink attack

My bantams were attacked by a mink right in front of me.I wrapped a rag around my hand and picked up the mink by the back of his body and squeezed hard and still he would not let go of the bantam he had in his jaws.Eventually i got the mink to let go. Is this normal behavior for wild mink or is this a captive bred mink that has been released deliberately.I am asking be cause I have no experience with mink.
I do know we have wild mink because escapees from farms

Ony saw this post now... Mink are not native to Irelaand and any that are now found are american mink because they were at one stage released from a farm somewhere when the Fur trade died.

Be careful. Mink are not afraid of contact with humans and when cornered can be extremely dangerous
