whats the reason fully formed chicks dont come out shell,15 came out had to assist 3,but 6 fully formed failed to pip & died,i presume its the humidity too high too low,in a brinsea eco automatic how do u ch humidity thanks

I always do a dry hatch until lockdown, then I add the water and keep the humidity over 70% until hatch. Always have brilliant results, had 100% last time.

Only learning about this myself at the moment but I've read a lot due to lockdown. Apparently the humidity should be increased for the last few days as this softens the shell making it easier to pip and hatch. This would tie in with what Diane is saying.

Too Much humidity I would guess. I have had this problem myself and looked into it It would seem too much humidity and the chick grows too quickly and fills its air space and suffocates.Too little and the chicks are small and also the hatch rate seems poor as well. I have a eggs in the incubator at the moment and and its a dry hatch.If you live in a part of the world where humidity is high enough dry hatching is seems to be best.And being an island surrounded by water is probably what makes it possible to dry hatch here.Even right now my humidity meter reads in the incubator 33 and this is still good enough.I will add a coffee lid of water or something similar if it drops lower than this because of the weather being so hot and dry.On day 18 I will add water to raise humidity to a high level for hatching.
