When will Poultry Sales return?

So, if all goes well...this coming Monday will see the return of Farmers Markets. If such social gatherings like these are permitted, surely the poultry sales can start up again?
Just a thought.

No doubt they will reopen this year its to risky with the bird flu rampant.

Would agree with paddy, there,ll be more important thing on peoples agenda without having to worry about policing poultry sales.
If people can,t get/afford insurance for childcare then poultry sales organisers certainly won,t get or be able to afford it.

No harm if they were stopped altogether only ones ever really benefitted from them were chicken dealers.

So hobby breeders would die out.

I don't get the link between child care and poultry sales.

I don't see why they can't reopen if everything is. Can't be an unfair system, one rule for some and different for others. There's no contract tracing in place so how long are people going to have to keep their whole lives on hold for a virus that nobody has a vaccine yet. There are other domino effects to this besides the economy failing. We are supposed to be on lockdown but the ferries and planes were still allowed to operate. Now there are new positive cases at Kepak in North Cork. Someone once said it's a sign of madness to be going around in circles and expecting a different outcome.

The true hobby breeder won't die out in fact you will rarely see a good keeper at a sale, now the hole virus carry on as bad as it is you just have to look who is benefitting from it and whos going to pick up the bill for it when its all done and dusted.🙄

I'd say it could be next year, but paddy do you feel qualified to say " you rarely see a GOOD KEEPER at a sale" when you admit you haven't been to one in years? Maybe things have changed since the noughties. I have both bought and sold a lot of quality birds at sales in recent years and meet lots of great sellers who really enjoy the whole process. I for one hope sales come back soon. Paddy check a couple out before you comment on sales from 2005-2015 or maybe older. Comon sence realy😜

It all depends on what you regard quality I'm far from qualified but I have a fair idea of good from bad and good keepers their very scarce and always have been most breeders in this country have several different breeds on hands and think they are breeders.🙄

Just to reiterate, maybe you shouldn't comment on the quality of sales and markets when you haven't been at any for years and years and years. Just saying like. Stay healthy.

swan 555
Monday, May 18th, 2020

The quality is not on done deal its not on fb in general the quality and health of birds has gone down hill big time in the last 20 years and continues to get worse the vast majority of birds seem to be a succession of brother sister matings past from one keeper to the next all with little or no knowledge of genetics or basic traits to look for to perpetuate birds that meet their breed standard.

paddycrawford

We weren't talking about donedeal or facebook, it was markets that you say you haven't visited in years and years.
Like a politition you are lol.

Oh I have been to sales in recent years the same dealers the same poor quality and cross breeds you only have to look at done deal birds on there for sale week in week out in filthy over crowded sheds and it always seems to be a same few and these are the very same birds that frequent sales.

paddycrawford

And why is it you went to the sales paddy if you have such a bad opinion of them? Do you sell paddy. Or even have anything?

swan 555

Just common farmyard hens Desy no breed it was a long ago.
I collected dogs swan by appointment from a good reliable source I've also bought two very good dogs in Gosford sale a number of years ago theres a lot less chance of bringing home a diseased dog than a chicken.

Didn't want to presume anything paddy and if you say so.
I'm a firm believer you should see the facilities, conditions, and parents when purchasing a puppy. Any thing less no matter how well intentioned could can help the growth of these puppy farms. Never and I mean never buy from markets paddy. That's my advice anyway

swan 555

I don't buy puppies if its not doing its job I definitely don't want to see what produced it or what kennel it came from were not talking about labradoodles here or cockapoos its not possible to puppy farm dogs of a working nature.😉

Jezuz!
This topic has turned sour and has no informative value.
I'm a small hobby breeder.
I don't keep my birds in filthy conditions as was suggested above.
They have an acre to run about on.
I get antibiotics if needed and put them down if they're not going to get better, example one rooster had repeated attack of bumblefoot.
My bloodlines are good, they're not brother and sister, nor mother to son matings. I buy in new bloodlines every so often.
Why has this society turned into one that likes tearing people down or being constantly disrespectful or inconsiderate or unempathetic?
Why do many today only see their own situation and not others?
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
And treat all animals the same as that also.

Thats a very good point there Wyandotte there always seems to be some one on these sites comes on with to me a disingenuous and provocative opinions I wonder if every one used their real name like me and gave their honest genuine opinions would topics be as quick to go off topic.🤔

I'm saying, why can't everyone, inclusively, be more supportive and stop looking for ways to get at each other.
Better things to be doing with precious time.

Thanks Desy for that information.
Roll on June.
