Introducing single hen to flock...bad idea?

Iíve been given 1 hen that I need to integrate into my flock of 5 + 1 rooster. Usually Iíd have 2+ in a run within the main run. Will this work for a single or do I need to get her a partner before introducing her to the full flock? Iíve heard just trying to add 1 is a bad idea. What are your experiences? Thank you

Existing flock is a mix of hybrid, RIR & cream legbar. New hen is hybrid Maran.

It's possible but it can depend on breed, age and size.

She would be similar in size to other hens. Probably about 1 year old. The others are all 2 - 4 years old. Would it work better if I got another hen & popped it in with the new hen (or would they likely fight too much?) and then work on intro to new flock?

She should be fine. They will establish a new pecking order at first. After a few days thew will settle down. This is an normal process. If she is bigger than the other hens and not afraid to stand up for herself she will probably be the boss.
Some breeds are more doctile and tend to be bullied in a mixed flock, but my experience with marans or maran hybrids is they tend to be a little feisty in a flock so I would think she will be fine and find her place in the flock easily enough.

Thank you. Sheíd be about the same size as the others. Iíll integrate her as I would if I had more & hopefully sheíll settle in. Thank you for your advice- greatly appreciated!! Great name by the way!!

If you had a spare pen to put her in with one of your own hens for a few days and then over time introduce the others one by one it would work well- I did this

As long as you do it at night under cover of darkness.
Just put her on the percch amongst the other hens and come morning they will have absorbed each others smell and all will be grand.
