Does anyone know of any hatcheries in Ireland that still throw away male chicks?
Iím looking to see if I can contact them and take some of their hands

Usually you cannot buy the male chicks from laying strains live.
We used to sell all ours frozen in bags of 100 & boxes of 1000 pieces as food for snakes etc.
This was an agreement from the parent company who we held the layer breeders and hatched for that when they were sexed the males were destroyed. This may have changed.

Think Flockmaster is correct.
I read something not too long ago stating the big commercial hatcheries have developed a system where a dye is injected into developing eggs to determine the sex and all eggs showing male markers are destroyed removing the need to put young chicks through a grinder for pet meat.
Don,t know if this applies to the big hatcheries here but i,m nearly sure they won,t release their male chicks anyhow.
If you find anything out please do let us know out of interest.

seen someone post on a animal welfare page the other day ,that they were going to ask the hatcheries for the male chicks to save them from the grinder!

I wonder what they propose to do with them then assuming that they realise that they have to be fed and housed. 😶

Wonder could you fatten them in a big number for the table or would they be hard to flesh out.could cost too much to finish them
