EU Red tape !!

Received a letter( apparently all flock number holders will be liable for this charge) this morning from the dept of agriculture this morning stating that any birds purchased at any sale from the 26th of May would be subject to a E13.50 levy per bird.
Surely this can,t be allowed to happen, sales are bad enough at the moment but this could be the death knell for poultry keepers the lenght and breadth of Ireland.
Thoughts people?
And has anyone else received this letter ?

Really? Just 13.50 per bird? That wouldn't be too bad, I got a letter stating that any bird sold has to be microchipped and DNA-tested. Additionally for selling them to and in northern counties they have to be supplied with woolen socks and underwear.
Not sure how the knitting will go here...
