Big thanks to Rob off here for the eggs, they traveled the width of the country by post and every egg we put into the incubator hatched.

I have some goldtops and one of em has been wanting to sit for the last 2 months. She is constantly on the nest.

Ive never set eggs under a broody so what do yous advise? Have her in a seperate pen? Anything specific about the nest? She is in a crate filled with straw

the other hens will lay in with her and you will mix up egg..so the best thing is on her own with Access to food and water..have the new area all set up with eggs ect..and I find it best to move her at nite...I use shredded paper or straw in nest and make sure the chicks when hatch can get out of the nest easy as in don't have high side..the hen will do the rest

Nice one lads thanks for the advice.i must get a few silkies and try them. I have 2 bantys set.you definitely canít beat the hen compared to the incubator.incubator is fine for setting large amount of eggs when you want them but the chicks take minding if you have time. The hen does the looking after here and the chicks do be a lot more street smart if that makes sense.ill try silkies when I get some. I think itís the weird look of them that put me off them before

Have a Cuckoo Maran hybrid sitting on 8 Bielefelder eggs. She on day 12 and has to be lifted off the nest to eat and drink. Unusual for hybrids to be good sitters but she seems to be doing really well.

Doctorsroomghost

Does that usually happen with the one chick, happened to me last year as well. Had 6 from 7 last friday only popped there heads out today was a cold couple of days.

Bonzie.
Tuesday, April 16th, 2019

Not always if a chick gets squashed by the hen then it was probably week to begin with nature's way natural selection I should have more due out over the coming days and the one chick will be going in with those.

Iím not sure Bonzie but I was vexed when it did happen.at least she got one for herself after 3 weeks sitting says I and it dead the following night.put the hen back out with the flock then to clean up the place and the other fcukers attacked her when they hadnít seen her in a while.
