Egg Laying?

Is anyone getting eggs from their chickens?
I don't know what is going on with my flock cos I get one egg a day from maybe ten potential layers.
I was sorta putting it down to the extreme heatwave a few weeks back throwing them out of sync but they still haven't returned to laying at all!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated cos I am going to the store to get more layers pellets and that sorta food but don't know what else to do!

Yes the heat caused a lot of hens to go into early molt, and it takes longer for pure breeds to return to laying than the hybrids. Increase their protein a bit by giving a tin of dog food during the day, they should start again shortly.

everything is moulting now, plus the shorter cold days, will slow /stop laying.
i have 18 birds an only getting 6 eggs , its good for them to have a break.

I was thinking it might be a lack of protein, I had heard that a feed bag of some calf starter or something might be a big protein boost?
Or would growers pellets work?
Or just stick with Layers Pellets?

If they are moulting a tin of sardines in sunflower oil will give them a bit of help to throw out new feathers. Fish bone meal was always used by poultry keepers of bygone years rather than dog food(Thats meant for dogs)
Make sure to check for mites and lice too, this year was particularly bad for them with all the heat we had, still worth checking even now as they can hang around for a long a time.
Layers, feed wheat as a scatter feed, access to greens and a ready supply of mixed grit and fresh water is all the need really.

Egg production went way down, I have a bag of chick starter crumb unused so I put in the feeder and a bowl of oyster shell, egg production back to normal.

No problem in mine and the heat wave was tough here.

Mine are mixed ages, 3 years apart at most.

No sign of moulting.

Something to your own situation maybe, are the egg boxes open, could grey crows, magpies be taking them.

How long would I need to feed the hens dog good for them to start laying again

Still no joy but I will start with the chick crumb mix like you suggested Adam1, because I also have some extra of that.
I might try the can of dog food idea because I cannot source fish bone meal easily enough.

Anyone ever heard of using the calf starter pellets or something along those lines to increase protein? I have had two people suggest it? So I dunno, might give it a go?
Unless its horribly poisonous for birds, which I assume its not, but still... ;)

Thanks for all your answers I am gonna try and figure it out cos I want some darn eggs!

I use Versele Laga "Success Corn" (supposed to be for pigeons) or cheap pond fish sticks to increase protein both easy enough to come by

The pond fish sticks are often in aldi.never used them but I’ve seen them there often

Tippbird man you might be waitin a while.normally when they start barkin the eggs will follow and just make sure they,re locked in when the postman is deliverin.

If you throw a kettle of water into your bucket of layers pellet and stir it around with a big stick until it goes soft and gloopy, they’ll Hoover it up into themselves and that can help sometimes

Oyster shell always a good idea

Have you wormed them recently?
