Call Duck Predator

I had a young call duck killed last night. Both legs, head and neck missing. Some of the breast eaten. The bird was the only one of 4 sharing a run that was killed. The enclosure they are kept in at night is made of 2x2 timber & completely enclosed in heavy guage 25mm welded wire mesh. The killer seems to have somehow grabbed the bird through the mesh & not entered the run. No sign of a break in.
Does anyone have any idea what could do this ?
I thought maybe a Weasel !?!?!
I live in the country in farmland, no water, lakes or rivers nearby.

Very unfortunate.
You do not get weasels in Ireland.
It sounds very much like a rat, or possibly a stoat.
If it was a mink it would have claimed many more of the ducks.
I hope you get whatever it was.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have a trap at the ready for tonight with the call duck corpse as bait.

All our ducks are free ranging and had a pine martin kill one, found the body with just the head off and nothing else touched, i shot a pigeon and placed it where the martin was hanging out and it only took the head of it too.I was able to watch it at night with thermal imaging and caught it in a trap with a tin of sardines and relocated it.

Hope you catch your killer, Darren

Darren looks like a fox attack mate

Yes I'd say marten or fox. A stoat would eat very little. How close was the body to the mesh? If it wasn't tight to mesh then maybe fox could be ruled out too.
