I use layers of newspaper for first few days.
Easy to remove top sheets when dirty.
I also use large shavings.

I too use newspaper for first week, but with kitchen paper on top, ( cheap variety ) I then change to wood shavings, I get a big bag in my local co op store ( around Ä9 ) it lasts ages should do a good few hatches for you

I use shavings straight away, and I find it works great.
Please donít use newspaper as it can be slippery and chicks can get splay leg from it.

Ya, thatís why I use kitchen paper on top,you will need to change it every day as it gets dirty very quickly, I change to wood shavings at a week.
