Just wondering do anybody else do this?

Haven't kept ferrets for a few years now, but really enjoyed it when i did. Very few rabbits around these parts these days too. What type terriers do you use?

Nowadays I see rabbits around, they disappear within 2 or 3 days, something is getting them, I don't see foxes.

I use jack Russell that worked through the hedge pushing the rabbits that are above ground to ground she also marks and a jack Russell with a touch of whippet he is fast enough to catch any net slippers and can catch them bolting from the hedge that the jack bolted out into the open

Used to bring all the dogs i had which included collies and terriers as well as a lurcher or 2.. no rabbits about this area anymore so not worth keeping a dog or ferret

When I was in the UK we would go Ferretting every Sunday from October to March. We had acres and acres of land which was 90% crops and fruit so we were made very welcome by the farmers. Our best day was 112 rabbits in 4 hours with 500 yards of long nets in a blackcurrant field.

The best curs for marking weren't any particular breed although terriers seem to be the most popular. All you need for ferreting is a cur trained to rabbit scent for marking buries. Once you train that cur to mark you save a lot of time.

A couple of rough coat whippet/lurchers are also very useful.

As tank girl says, its so bad in some area's that its pointless keeping ferrets and rabbiting dogs, because there aint any rabbits to hunt. I've read in another place that rabbits eventually recover frim RHD virus, but im not seeing any recovery, and their gone from here many years now

The terriers i brought were parson russel types, failed fox dogs as if i brought a decent dog with me it would go to ground at the first opportunity.
