Maybe they are on just starting to lay or maybe point of lay or may just be settling in if you have just bought them?

Or something talking away the eggs like rats or magpies, or you have egg eater hens, if they are free range they could be laying in a concealed nest

Hens need light to trigger laying, is therefore artificial light in the house?
If the hens were laying and eating the eggs there would be some signs of this, fact that some are laying in the nest boxes makes it sound that laying out isn't the issue.

Get a treadle feeder and feed ad lib.just keep it filled.any magpies or crows hanging around blast them out of the sky and feed plenty of blue porridge to ratty.make sure no other animal gets access to the blue porridge though

20kg should last 20 birds about 8 days , i fill up a 5 kg feeder every second day for 18 birds
