Anyone on here know how a rat kills a chick? Found one dead yesterday morning all breast meat and inside eaten, set the rat trap but caught a feral cat in it, don't know who the culprit is now any ideas? The birds are in a stable that doesn't look like there's any way for a cat to get in, have always kept call ducks and adult birds without a problem in here surely if it was the cat she'd kill the older birds aswell?

Rats are cleaver and quick learners. They will happily pull a chick from under a hen during the night. People always think of rats as opportunist thieves but the reality is they will happily kill if they need to.
I have a trailcam video of a rat attacking and killing a full grown bantam. It's not pleasant but i can upload it to youtube if you'd like to see it.
Cats tend to chew the wings and legs off and just eat the softer parts and rats just tend to chew away a little at the middle and leave the carcass intact which would suggest your culprit is a rat.
