Advise on candling day 12-13 polish hen Eggs

Hi I am new here..i have a few polish hen eggs and I candled them today and they were nearly all black only a small airpoocket at top no red spider views and no movement..are they dead

Hi it's around the 12/day and as written it's not moving but mostly black with an airpocket on the very chick dead? It's my first time..i wonder if I could post a pic thanks

It sounds like they are progressing well. You would need an extremely strong light to see the embryo move.

I agree it sounds like they're OK to me. Candling can be tricky and like most things in life, the more experience you get, the better you become !!

The darker the egg the more difficult to see anything & even then your eyes can play tricks on you the harder you stare. The air sac will become bigger as the eggs age and likewise the chick will become bigger meaning less room for movement, I would imagine the dark area your referring too is the chick progressing The spider veins are obvious only in the early stages with bright light and light coloured egg, so don't become overly concerned.

Theres lots of info online to read and see various stages of development, to look at, read about and learn. However whilst it can be an exciting time, resist the temptation to keep candling, be it incubator or hen.
