We volunteer for Irish Guide dogs as breeding stock holders and love it when our brood bitch has a litter. It's been so good for the whole family and really rewarding to see "our pups" go on to qualify as a guide or assistance dog.

I am a volunteer with the Irish Coastguard in the Dingle Unit.
We have a team of 26 people which covers the Cliff, Mountain, Sea Rescue & a Search Unit.
It takes up a lot of time for training especially for new volunteers who must do at minimum the First Aid Course's, VHF Radio Cert, Search Skills Course, Sea Survival Course & Cliff Rescue Certification.
Once these courses are done training is one night a week for about 3 hours rotating between different scenarios.
Boat exercises run more frequently especially in summer months as you need to keep up your hours at sea to maintain your qualifications. This also applies to Cliff Rescue, log books are kept for all training and call outs.
Volunteers can progress onto the Boat Operation Courses and work your way up to Coxswain.
You are on call 24 /7 and carry a pager, its unpaid hard work but very rewarding.

Hi Virginias fowl, the pups go to puppy walkers when they're 8 weeks old until they are around 14 months old and are house trained, taught basic commands and socialised really well then they go into the guide dogs training centre for training until they are about 2 years old
